We invite you to join us for Pilgrimage to remember our fellow pilgrim Father Graham Golden.  This half day pilgrimage will take place Saturday, June 26, 2021, from 7:00am to Noon with a simple lunch at the Norbertine Abbey following.  Two routes, one longer, one shorter, one encuentro, many prayers, some singing, and silence shared by all.  With grateful hearts, we walk remembering Fr. Graham Golden, O. Praem., giving thanks for his life as priest, companion, and pilgrim on Christ’s Way.
The Golden Way is organized by the New Mexico Pilgrimage for Unity as a gift to those who were close to Fr. Graham.  You may participate as you feel able and inspired.  The longer walk will be about 6 miles, leaving at 7:00 am from Cornerstone United Methodist Church, 3905 Las Vegas Rd. SW, Albuquerque.  The shorter walk, about 1 mile, leaves at 9:00 am from, and returns to, the Norbertine Abbey.  All pilgrims will share the final 0.5 mile of the pilgrimage.  At the Abbey we will assemble for prayer and reflection in the church, process to Fr. Graham’s grave and conclude with a simple meal.

Why the Golden Way?

When we think of pilgrimage, two things stand out:  the first is intention.  We go, carrying something in our heart…a longing, a person, a hope, a desire that God come to us and to this world God loves in ways tangible, palpable and compelling.  And second, we go to someplace “holy”, a designated place where people testify that God dwells, that God might be found in that place.

We offer this pilgrimage in honor of Father Graham, carrying him and all that was important to him in our hearts as we make our way to the place where he is buried.  We consider this to be campo santo; a holy place because it is ground where God’s beloved son, Father Graham, lay, even as his spirit rises to be with God.  He lived a holy life, not perfect in every way, but dedicated to God and made holy by the sanctifying work of the Holy Spirit in him.

Those of us who walk as pilgrims along the Golden Way seek to be like Father Graham, as he sought to be like Christ Jesus, who lived his life in the service of others.  We devote ourselves, as did he, to a unity of mind and heart, sharing whatever we bring with all who walk with us and all we encounter along the Golden Way.

May this pilgrimage strengthen us on our journey homeward, where we will again break bread with our beloved brother in the Lord.
